Poor Thing

My baby is sick again for the 2nd time this month. When we got home from the sitter, she was acting not herself...all bubbly, non-stop talking. She just wanted to sit in my lap. Soon, I noticed her shivering and hot. Once again, a fever has set in for the evening. She took a cat nap after the Dyer visit. I hope feels better soon.

Our morning started about 15 minutes earlier than usual today since I had to go to a meeting, which I needed more travel time. The kids woke up to their Valentine gifts at the kitchen table this morning along with doughnuts for breakfast.

Then Phil had an extra long day with conferences but on his way home he stopped and picked up 4 roses for his special ladies.

Olivia likes to dance playing the wii game Just Dance. Ruth follows her and often asks to dance. She holds the wii remote and 'thinks' she is dancing. Ruth's dancing is usually a sway back and forth and a spin or two.

Sweet 'Pupcakes'

Valentine's Day is around the corner so I felt the need to bake something sweet. I didn't spend time making sugar cookies this time around. Instead the girls and I made angel food cupcakes. Just the right size for the kids. Phil and the other hand eats 2 at a time.

Olivia is currently taking a cooking class at school and has made several different things in it. I thought this would fun for her to use what she has been learning with reading directions/steps. They turned out great!

Clare is the one who calls cupcakes 'pupcakes' at our house. She wasn't interested in helping this morning.

Ruth thought the batter was hot. Angel food cake's batter does taste a little different.

Finally...SNOW to Go Sledding.

Clare received a new snow tube for Christmas to go sledding. She was dieing to get it out and use it but lately, there hasn't been enough snow to use it. Saturday it snowed plenty for the kids to play in. Right after church, we all suited up to go sledding at the nearby sled hill.

Ruth is always wanting to know where her sisters are at. Last night Ruth went to find Olivia and here is what she was doing before bedtime. I was trailing behind Ruth and overheard Ruth say, "I wanna read in my bed." She quickly went to go get some books and got all comfy in her bed, just like her Big Sis. Just precious!! I love how much Ruth wants to be with her sisters.

Ruth ABSOLUTELY loves bath time. She likes to put color tints the water and a little bubble bath to splash around in. Here dad gave her a bath and gave Ruth a beard.

Ruth has been busy playing in her kitchen cooking dinner. Sometimes she sneaks water from the fridge and puts it in her pots.

I dug up some old toys/games that Ruth can possibly play with. She likes to find matches with the cards.

Here we are playing SPOT IT. Clare received this new game in her stocking. It reminds me of the game Pictureka but now, players have individual cards to look for matching pictures. There are several different games that can be played with this game. Everyone had fun playing this game, however Ruth was more interested in taking her bath during our game night.

Olivia had her 7th Grade Winter program tonight. She was one of 188 girls singing in her concert. In 7th grade chorus, the girls and the boys are divided. Olivia LOVES chorus class. She is always singing the songs from class around the house.

4 Years Ago...

our family moved to Urbandale. Just this past week, I asked Andrew if it has seemed longer since we'd lived here and he thinks so. He has gone to school longer here in Johnston than he did in the GW area. The memories from GW/Malvern are fading for him. Which is sad b/c that is where he was born, first home, friends, left our family in the Omaha area. In these four years the kids have grown so much. Their network of friends has grown compared to where we lived before. Even though Phil and I weren't sure of our move at first, we don't look back. We moved so our kids would have more opportunity in a bigger school setting. The kids absolutely LOVE it here, we have wonderful neighbors, live on a quiet street with kids to play with, great jobs, and family near by, and little to travel for work.

2007-When we first moved here, Olivia was in 3rd grade, Andrew first and Clare just turned 3 years old.
2011-Andrew in 5th grade, Clare in 1st grade, Olivia in 7th, and Ruthie is 2 years old.

I took the two younger girls to Patches Pumpkins. They absolutely LOVED it. We haven't been to this particular one before. It was perfect for them. They had a ton of fun and stayed there for about 3 hours.

Dan, Raye, Joseph and Gramma Mary came for the day last Sunday. It had been since May since Phil's brother's family had been here. The kids love getting to see them and play with little Joseph. I think Joseph enjoys the attention too.

Homecoming Parade

It has been a long time since we have gone to a parade. The weather was perfect, and so we were off to Johnston's Homecoming Parade. Ruth is at a good age to go. She would watch her brother and sister and follow their lead. Ruthie liked the tootie rolls, which she called gum.

Notice that Olivia didn't join us. She is becoming more social these days. She went to the 7th grade social with some friends, and then they went to the parade together. Last night, Olivia went to the football game with the same girls too. And yes, a parent went as well. She came home around 10 last night. I asked her if she had a great time and she said yes. But she commented on how they didn't sit the whole time and she was tired of standing. I remember those days, you don't go to the game to watch, only to socialize. HA!! However, she knew that Johnston beat Indianola, winning their Homecoming game. My girl is growing up!!

This week Olivia had volleyball games against Urbandale. It was fun watching her play an organized sport. It had been awhile-4th grade soccer. She has been waiting over a year to play and finally the time has come. There are a ton of girls out for the sport in 7th grade, over 60 girls. So to make sure all get to play, there are 6 teams. Olivia is on team E and is total fine with that. She is having a TON of fun and is making a lot of new friends. This week she'll have 3 nights of games. A lot to juggle with schoolwork and dance too. All of the kids' activities make the week fly by so fast.

Andrew had his first tackle football game today. It was a scorcher watching the game. The girls and I last about an hour then headed home to put Ruthie down for her nap. Andrew's team lost against the Cyclones, 6-0. He came home very disappointed with the loss but there is always next weeks game.

We recently learned a friend of Clare's lives one street over. They were both in the same kindergarten class, but this year they are in different classes. Anyway, for the past couple of weeks, they have gotten together to play after school. Yesterday after Clare's soccer game, she wanted to play with friend. They played together all afternoon. One of the games they played was hopscotch. They attempted to draw the squares themselves but their feet couldn't fit in the boxes. I don't thing Ruth's feet could have either, HA. While I was outside with them, they asked me to make it. Here they are playing the game.

Soccer Season has Begun

Clare had her first soccer game this season. She is on a different team this year and the players on the team are GOOD. They've been together since pre-school and this is Clare's 2nd season. Not that Clare isn't good but these players know how to play the game whereas for her, she is use to chasing the soccer ball like a bumble bee. The coaches are trying to 'coach' her and at times she feels frustrated. She'll get the hang of it. But today, she played awesome and tried hard not to always powerkick the ball. Her team won, and she scored 3 of the goals.

Can't Forget Ruthie

Three weeks ago, Ruthie started her first day back to Lori's. I wasn't sure how she would do going back with being home for 2 1/2 months. But she was ready and all excited to see her friends. Every morning still she'll say, "Go see Lori."

With good news, we were able to tell Lori that Ruthie is potty trained. We started the first week in August, once baseball games were over. Just like her older sisters, and brother, she was just as easy and within a week, she was good to go. She has had only a few accidents but now she can go up to 2 hours before going potty, and she even tells us now when she has to go.

What a BIG girl she is!!!

Ready or Not, Another School Year Begins

First Day of School 2011-2012
This was the first year ever that Phil and I were able to watch the kids go off to school and even take them to school. We've always been back to work ourselves. Tomorrow is our official day back to work. It was great getting them ready w/o feeling rushed. What I loved was being home when they came home from school and listen to them tell me about their day.

A Shout Out to Omaha

Ruthie is driving in her car to Omaha. She is jabbering on her toy phone saying," Hi Danny, Raye, and Joe, Joe." Ruth is BIG on names these days and anything and everything people say. She will string together a bunch of people names in our neighborhood as well. She is quite the greeter on our street.

Splash Station

We went to Omaha Friday/Saturday to visit Dan, Raye, and Joseph. Grandma Mary was there to so it was great seeing her there as well. We were able to squeeze in a visit before school begins next week. The next time we return will be meeting our nephew/niece in November. On Sat. Dan and Raye took us to Splash Station in Fremont, NE. It is about 30 west of Omaha. We headed there after lunch. I thought Ruth would nap on the way there but nope. The kids were all excited to get in the water and get wet but not Ruth. She was cranky and wanting nothing to do with the water. I gave up with trying so I laid her on the tanning chair to see if she would fall asleep. I felt terrible b/c we were totally in the sun. Soon a family was leaving that was under a nice shady umbrella, and we were able to score some shade. Ruth relaxed for about a half hour and she was a new person. She wanted to go in the water and finally enjoyed it too.

Every 2 minutes the water tower would blow its whistle and the water would spill out. Ruth was absolutely scared of this pretty much the whole time we were there.

Grandma in the water with her grandkids. Joseph loved the water. Ruthie on the other hand wasn't fond of it and cried the first hour or so of being there. She was very tired and wanted to nap.

Time for a Trim

I was originally going to grow Ruth's hair out, but she refuses to wear clips or pony tails for any length of time. So we went to get her first haircut. Ruth climbed in the chair with no problems but as I was talking to the hairdresser, Ruth became nervous and scooted out of the chair. We bribed her with a sucker but she still didn't want anything to do with getting her haircut. I tried to sit with her too but nope. Shawna, the hairdresser, thought we could try again later in the day but I figure she would react the same way.

For those who know Ruth, she doesn't throw huge tantrums but when she does get upset, it is short lived and she comes out of it rather quickly. Not that she threw a fit at Cost Cutters, but she did fuss. As she was standing by the door holding her sucker, I asked her ONE more time, "Do you want to get your haircut?" She said in her sweet little voice, "Yes." and walked over to the chair. She climbed right up and Shawna put on the animal covered cape. Snip, Snip and 15 minutes later Ruth's first haircut was over. As you can see from the 'after' photo, Ruthie likes her new look.

New Glasses for the Girls

In the summer, a week is spent going to our annual doctor appointments. The girls had their eye appts. and it was time for new frames. Olivia has had her frames for 4 years and it was time to get new ones. It doesn't look like much has changed b/c once again they are rimless at the bottom, but the frame is a dark mocha and lime green designs on the sides. Clare has been wearing classes for a year now. Her purple frames were getting too small for her face and a bigger frame was in need. The color of her frames are pink/mauve color. Both girls are liking their new glasses and ready for school.

Surprise Getaway

Phil and I had been wanting to take the kids somewhere this summer, but finding time was the difficult part. Andrew's baseball has been consuming our summer evenings and with him being selected on All-Stars, has made the season a little longer than usual. This year his team has advanced to the State level, only competing against 7 teams around the State.

Last week, there was small window of opportunity to sneak away before the State tournament started. We told the kids we were going to Grandma's for a few days. But what they didn't know was we were only going to Grandma's to drop off Ruth, and then we were heading to St. Louis with the older three. A big THANKS to my mom for watching Ruthie so we could enjoy our trip w/o scheduling naps and having a fussy toddler while visiting the sights in STL.

Once Ruth was all settled in at Grandma's, we told the kids to load back up in the van. They were confused BUT knew something was up.

Without telling them right away, I prepared slips of paper of the different things we planned to do and where we were going to keep in the suspense for our 4 hour drive. Four envelopes for them to open every hour. This was the BEST thing I could have done in planning our trip b/c the kids were soooo excited to get the 'next' envelope to find out more on what was planned on our trip.

DAY 1~
Envelope #1-St. Louis Zoo ~ Andrew said this was a dead give away to where we were headed and I should have left off 'St. Louis'.

#2 envelope- Touring the Gateway Arch-tram to the top, sightseeing cruise, and a movie on how the Arch was built. When the kids heard 'cruise', Phil quickly said this isn't like the cruise ship on the show Zack and Cody-Sweet Life.

It was lunch time, so we stopped in Hannibal, MO to eat and fuel up on gas. After we ate, we decided to tour Mark Twain's cave. Phil and I had never been there before, but I knew about the cave since my brother went there in 6th grade for his end of the year field trip. By the time, I was in 6th grade, the end of the year trip was moved to visiting the State Capital here in DM.

We could feel the 57 degree temperature upon entering in the cave. It felt awesome since the heat was well near 100 degrees.

DAY 2~
Zoo

The zoo in STL is free, what a deal!!!! We only had to pay for parking $12, and some shows, but our fantastic friends shared their zoo pass with us, and we used some passes to see the Sea Lion Show. Thanks Jayna!!!

To see and pet the sting rays, you do have to pay, but the exhibit is free if you come the first hour the zoo opens. The kids LOVED this exhibit and we probably were there about a half hour. They even wanted to go back later in the day. This was one of their favorite parts of the zoo. Before the first hour of the zoo was up, we headed to the Children's section of the zoo to take advantage of the free first hour.

The sea lions performed many neat tricks, and Phil even caught a frisbee souvenir from the sea lion.

Clare loved the hippos- they were very LARGE and playful with each other.

The giraffes were so close to us to snap a photo of them.

The heat index was well above 100 the whole time we were there. The zoo was surprisingly very shady and there were a lot of misty fans on the paths.

I was asked to compare the Omaha's Zoo to the zoo in STL. Phil and I were totally impressed with the zoo in STL. I think it may be even better than Henry Doorly. This zoo had a great selection of animals just like the HD Zoo but what we liked was that the zoo was broken down into different areas or themes for the type of animals, and you would follow little trails, which were shady. There weren't long walks to the next group of animals either. The zoo is very thought out in its design. Since it was extremely hot, there were many places for drinking fountains, misty fans and lots of restrooms.

After the zoo, the we were wiped from the heat and all the walking. We stopped at a McDonald's in Glen Carbon to have a refreshing ice cream treat. Then we headed to Joe and Jayna's to cool down. The kids all played well together and Phil and I were able to visit with Jayna while Joe was at work. Later that night, Joe grilled burgers for us and we had a delicious meal prepared by Jayna.

After supper, Joe hooked up the slip and slide for the kids to play in.

We had great time staying with the Froehlich's. Their hospitality was outstanding!!! It has seem been more than 10 years for me and 5 years for Phil since we had seen them last. It doesn't seem like any of us has aged but Joe pointed out that now we have children and one is almost as tall as us, that makes us feel old.

Day 3~ Cahokia Mounds

We had a few hours in the morning before we were scheduled to tour the Arch. Joe suggested we stop at Cahokia Mounds in Collinsville, Illinois before driving into STL. This is the largest prehistoric Indian site north of Mexico. The mound below is more than 100 feet high and king would live there. At once time the Mississippian culture began their community here.

I was getting my camera ready to take a picture of the Arch just out my window when this motorcyclist slowed down at Phil's window. We weren't sure what he wanted, but he noticed I had a camera and then we figured it out. He wanted us to take a picture of HIM. He performed for us on the bridge, popping a huge wheely and doing other snazzy tricks.

Clare lost her front tooth the day we toured the Arch. This was a BIG moment for Clare b/c she didn't want her tooth to come out. She said she wasn't ready for it. For the majority of the day, she wasn't fond of her 'new' smile, hence in most of my pictures she isn't smiling at all. BUT
finally during supper at Hard Rock Cafe, she started to relax more and we'd see her smile.

13 Years Together

Today we celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe it has only been 13 years. It seems longer and the only way I know life. We celebrated actually on yesterday and my SIL Sara watched the kids while we went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. We haven't been there since our honeymoon and cheesecake would be the perfect dessert. ***Thanks Sara!!!

I'm glad we celebrated yesterday since today I wasn't feeling the best. I had a headache all day in my eyes and sinus and it was also a busy day with sports. I wouldn't have been up for dinner tonight.

District 3 Champions!!!

I came to game about a hour into it since Clare had a birthday party. That was ok since it was so HOT out!! When I arrived the score was 1-0, 3rd inning. It was a slow start and Johnston was behind. Johnston was home and at bat. In this inning, 3 runs were scored giving them the lead. In the 4th inning, Johnston held Ankeny but earning 5 more runs for themselves. Top of the 5th, no runs for Ankeny. Johnston needed 3 more runs to win by 10. And that is what they just did!!!

Nothing like playing baseball in 109 heat index. Andrew's team did just that. They played Ankeny once again. Ankeny didn't have their game on to play. A lot of errors which helped Johnston with the win. FINAL game will be Sun. against the same Ankeny team.

All-Star Finals-Part 3

Game 3 was against Bondurant. Both Johnston and Bondurant have lost a game, so whoever lost, was out of the tournament. It was the first inning, we had a runner on 2nd. Andrew bats forth and a few pitches were thrown. Then the perfect was there!!! Andrew whacked the ball OUT of the BALLPARK out in center field, clearing the 200 ft fence. It was great way to start the inning and game.
Johnston ended up winning 12-6. Now, his team faces the undefeated Ankeny team on Saturday.

The first game in was against our very own Nat. Johnston All-Stars. It was a tough game for the boys since they were playing against their friends/teammates. The fans on both sides were on edge the whole game. It was tied, bases loaded, and Andrew was up to bat. After a few pitches is was a full count. Next pitch...ball, walk in run to WIN, 4-3.

Tuesday morning, the kids and I met up with some friends at the park. Ruthie had a play date with Baby Brooklynn. It is a good thing we started our day at 9:00AM b/c the humidity kicked in. The girls had a lot of fun. It took awhile for them to interact together but eventually the girls were following each other up and down the slide.

The kids are hot and sweaty from playing. Ruth had a bath as soon as she got home. She was so dirty and sticky.

We knew Andrew was up to bat but once he hit the ball, the crowd was cheering b/c it was hit out of the park. I was too slow at getting my camera out to get a better picture of him. Clare ended up video taping it though.

Critter in the House

My kids would LOVE to have a pet but unfortunately we will not be getting a pet of any kind soon. We've had fish over the years, but the kids don't think they are 'fun' to have as a pet. My nephews received a Guinea pig for Christmas last year. Anyway, we are 'borrowing' Herkette for a week. My girls are LOVIN' her to death, giving her LOTS of attention.

4th of July

We spent our 4th in Ottumwa to celebrate my grandpa's 91st birthday. After unpacking our stuff, we headed to my uncle Mike's house for the celebration. Soon we found out that the guest of honor was sick. BUMMER!!! This was a first for my grandpa to miss the celebration. It wasn't the same without him. My mom, Chris, and I went to visit him the next day and he was feeling better.

My grandma came for a little bit but then went back home to be with my grandpa.

Andrew's tournament team typically plays teams around the Des Moines area, but this past weekend the Dragons played in Iowa City. It felt like we were on a mini-vacation, eating out/hotel/swimming, but missing the girls. My mom came up and watched them. I was worried about the weather and how Ruthie would do with a day full of baseball.

Phil's Uncle Mark came down to see Andrew's first game. Then he treated us out for lunch. Andrew picked Milos, just like Jimmy Johns.

2nd game-Andrew hit is first home run over center field. I was so excited that I couldn't get my camera out fast enough. All I was able to get was him at home plate with his team mates hugging him. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to help the team win. They lost 4-3.

Despite the losses, Andrew had a ton of fun playing one of his favorite sports. He has made some great friendships. The parents on the team are awesome as well. The Dragons have one more tournament to play over July 4th weekend. That will wrap up the season.

On Monday, Andrew's Little League team, Cubs, had their championship game to play against the Braves. Andrew pitched the first 4 innings, giving up one run. He had to pitch against two of his Dragon teammates. The final score ended up being 3-2 Cubs WINNING!!!!! It was a nail biter of a game. It was a great season. Baseball continues for a few more weeks for him. He made All-Stars so he'll have two weeks of practice and then his first game July 5th.

A High School Friend

My friend Kim and I have have been friends since junior high. She recently move back to Ottumwa and with my family coming home over the weekend, we were able to get together. We had a great time visiting and hanging out for the evening. We went out to eat for supper and ran into some other classmates. July of 2012, we will all be coming back to town to celebrate our 20th Class Reunion-1992. After dinner, we went over to my cousins house for a bonfire. The kids had a great time playing with the cousins and eating smores.

What a Surprise it Was!!

My Grandma turned 90 years old on Sat., June 11th. She was totally surprised by the birthday party my mom and uncle planned for her. Invites were sent out w/o her knowing and so it was all hushed. Everything worked out perfectly. My Uncle Mike told my grandparents he was taking them to an Open House John Deer was hosting for family. Mike went to pick them up and on his way back into town, he had to stop back at his house to get his ID badge. What Grandma didn't know was that Mike's house was full of family and friends of hers. She was totally caught off guard and had a blast visiting with everyone.

Ruthie isn't really into character things right at this point. Well, Ruthie received her first Dora doll. She sings a Happy Birthday song and what is great about this doll is that the clothes can't come off. Which Ruthie likes to do, strip her babies with nothing on them. Then we lose the clothes. 2 year Check-up

Here is Ruth with her pediatrician. She hasn't seen Ruth since December. Most of the time when Ruth had been sick, it was due to her ears and we'd take her to a clinic that is open in the evening. Dr. Beetler remembers little Ruthie b/c she is the only Ruth she has ever had as a patient and her sister's name is Ruth too. Beetler complimented Ruth for doing outstanding at the visit. The only thing she was afraid of was standing on the scale but she sat in bucket seat scale w/o hesitation. Ruth allowed her to look in her ears, teeth(2 of her 2yr molars are coming in), listen to her heart, check her tummy and feet. All looked great!!! Ruth even gave Dr. B her baby doll to be looked at as well.

Andrew had a baseball tournament in Johnston over the weekend. His team won only 1 game out of 3. They didn't play as well as the team had hoped. At the tournament they had a Derby for the kids, and they could do one event. Either a throwing at a target, hitting home runs, running around the bases the fast time. Andrew entered the running event. He ran around the bases the 2nd fastest and won a trophy.

I made a birthday cake for Ruth, even though we celebrated birthdays last weekend.

Birthday girls, 10 years and a week apart. Ruthie LOVES her big sister "Ya, Ya". That name come from when Clare was a toddler. She called Olivia 'Ya, Ya' when she was learning to talk. At first I didn't have a clue to what she was saying but when you say "O-liv-e-ya" she put together, 'ya, ya'. Now, that is what Ruth calls her big sis. She is always looking for her to be with. Olivia does a great job of including Ruth while playing in her room or doing other things. What a special bond these two have.

Ruthie can open the door that leads to the garage. A few times she has left to go outside to be with her brother and sisters outside w/o us knowing. Scary, huh?? We've never had this problem before with the other three children. I went to buy childproof door knobs. Andrew put this one on the garage door and also on his bedroom door to keep his sister out. Right now, she doesn't open the doors to the bedrooms but probably soon will.

After her nap she notice the new knob and quickly said, "Off, door." She doesn't like the new knob.

Blank Park Zoo

On Ruth's birthday, we took the kids to the zoo for the morning. This was Ruth's first trip there. Surprisingly the older kids enjoyed themselves as well. Every time we'd leave an animal exhibit, Ruth would say bye bye. There was a ton of construction going on at the zoo so the next time we visit, there will be more to see.

We celebrated Olivia's 12th birthday, Ruthie's soon to be 2nd, and my nephew, Kip's birthday with the family over the weekend. It was a packed house with food, gifts...and water. That's right, water!!! With the temps reaching in the 90's, kids got into their swimsuits for some water balloon fun along with the sprinkler. The kids, including two dads, had a HUGE water fight. Phil eventually turned the water off due to all of the water being used.

Phil's cousin, Jill, was in town over the weekend. She, her husband, Lee and 3 year daughter, Lauren leave in Austin, TX. Phil and I managed to get away for a few hours while Grandma Mary watched the kids. It has been a VERY long time, maybe 6 years, since we have seen Jill. We use to see her frequently at family gathering or at her dad's. It was great seeing her and the people she was with. There were tons of laughs and good times. Hopefully it won't be another 6 years before we see each other again.

We met her husband, Lee, which we just met for the first time. He and Phil have the love of music in common.

School is Out

School is OUT for the kids and for both Phil and I. I had the opportunity to go to my kids' school to attend a 'Party' in Andrew's class. It was very nice of my principal to let me go without getting a sub and also for the 3 teachers who helped cover my class, so I could go. Andrew was thrilled I could be there. He shared this portfolio and work samples from this year, and his teacher put together a DVD of his class.

After school, Andrew and I stopped by Clare's classroom to pick her up and to snap a photo.

Andrew's team had another busy weekend of games. I usually don't go to all of them b/c Ruthie can't handle going to all of them. Well, the team won another game so they advanced in their pool. Since another game was going to be played, and Ruth had just woke from her nap, I packed up the van and headed to the game.

The girls and I took a road trip to SW Iowa while the boys stayed back since Andrew was playing in a baseball tournament. A former colleague of mine from Malvern, invited me to attend her daughter's wedding. Despite the gloomy, cool weather the sun happened to show up during the ceremony but quickly hid away. I didn't get a picture of my friend and I, but I snapped a few photos of the bride and groom.

After the wedding, I hooked up with my friend Wendelin, and we decorated the community center where her son, Kyle, would be having his graduation party. Below is a picture of Amber and I. Amber and I use to teach together in Malvern and we both were pregnant at the same time. I had Clare in Sept. and Brock was born in Dec. of 2009. Anyway, Amber stopped by since I needed to give her something.

Since the girls and I had spent the night and the graduation party wasn't til Sun. afternoon, I needed Ruth to take a nap. I ended up driving up to Omaha, so Ruthie would nap. Thank goodness, she was able to get her 2nd wind. While we were there, we took a chance to see if Dan, Raye, and Joseph were home. Luckily, they were!!

At Kyle's graduation party, I was able to visit with former colleagues from Malvern. I worked with all of these wonderful ladies before I moved to Des Moines.

These girls were having their graduation party in the same building but on a different floor. I went to see them but they had left. They had heard Mrs. Nord was upstairs. They came up to find me. I taught all of these girls(except the one on the right... I was her teacher 9 yrs. ago) when they were in 4th grade, 8 years ago. They all are headed to wonderful places after high school. I'm so proud of them!!!

Weekend in Cedar Falls

This weekend we went to my cousins to celebrate our goddaughter's First Communion. We decided to travel up a day early so the cousins could have more time to play. Andrew didn't think we got of town soon enough to head up there Sat. morning. He was ready to go by 8AM. We were close, by 9, we were on the road. The kids played a TON outside, which was nice. They played a lot of baseball, basketball, played on their playset, wii, and a trip to Natalie's school playground.

Ruth wouldn't sit long enough for us to get in a photo. She is sooo busy these days and LOVES the outside.

We traveled up to Cedar Falls for the day to celebrate my cousin's two childrens' birthdays. The weather turned out to be beautiful for their celebration as they had a bounce house in their backyard to entertain the kids. All had a blast!!! Joe grilled some great food and Michelle baked yummy cupcakes for dessert. She also had fun party games planned for the kids go along with the Despicable ME themed party.

Master Bedroom Makeover

When we moved here four years ago, Phil and I didn't paint our bedroom since the color, sage/green-like matched our current comforter set. In the fall, I wanted a change and found this set at Kohl's. With school just starting, we didn't take the time to paint. I thought over Christmas break, but that didn't happen.
Here it is spring break, and I thought once Phil finished his presentation we'd have time to work on repainting the bedroom. Olivia and I painted the trim work and Phil rolled the paint on the walls. With it all finished now, it feels strange being in our room. It has taken some time to get use to.

This past Tuesday, Phil finished his masters program in administration. He gave a 30 minute presentation over his 400 hours of internship. It was more or less a celebration of his work in the program for the past two years. I'm so proud of his hard work and dedication to further his education. He was extremely motivated in his program. No more evening, weekend classes, papers to write, or presentations to do. Now all that is left is to complete some paper work to the state for his administration license.

Today in the morning I took the girls to the mall and met up with my friend Tammy and her two girls. It had been awhile since we've seen each other, but I thought over break would be a good time to catch up. After playing for about an hour, we then ate at the food court. Today I went into Clare's classroom to be with her and 18 kindergarteners. She has been the "Sweet Pea" of the week so I has able to go in and her classmates asked me questions about my job. Then the class quized me on Clare's favorite things. I answered 7 out of 10 correct. Here are some her favorite things:

My mom came up last weekend to help babysit while the kids didn't have school. My mom likes to give treat bags to the kids for the different holidays. Here is brought up Valentine bags with goodies for each of her grandkids.

My brother and I both have birthdays in February. While visiting, she took us all bowling. It had been a long time since we all had gone. The kids had fun and so did I. All I have to say is thank goodness for bumpers. HA

After dinner out, we came back to the house for cake and ice cream.

My MIL and I share the same birthday. She came up for the weekend, and we celebrated with a chicken dinner and ice cream cake. Oops, no pictures of us with our cake, but before I headed out the door for work we snapped a pic.

Sunday Donuts

After church, we had donuts at the church hall. The kids love donuts anytime they can get. Ruthie isn't a fan of eating foods that are bread-like such as pizza crust, grill cheese, dinner rolls, toast etc. She has tried donuts a few times and is starting to like them...a little. Today she ate the sprinkles off and then some of the rest.

A SCENTsational Night

My good friend Amber from Glenwood came to DM on Friday with her son Brock. She is a Scentsy consultant, and I had a party while she was in town for a wrestling tournament. Her husband is the head coach for the Glenwood team, and she always goes to the matches to support the Rams. I don't host many parties very often, but I thought it wouldn't hurt. Not many of my co-workers had heard of Scentsy and thought they may like their products as much as I. Last year for my birthday, Amber gave me a warmer and some scented wax. Since then I have bought several different scents and have enjoyed the aroma throughout the house. I like the scent of candles but with children around in the house, I never have any out anymore. It is VERY child friendly, which I LOVE, and I like all the different styles of scents. You don't have to have 5 different huge candles to burn through, which takes forever to go use up a candle.

Anyway, the party was a success thanks to my co-workers, family and friends for stopping by and purchasing some of their favorite items. Food + good company = Fun

Clare was SOOO excited to see Brock. They haven't seen each other since summer. Brock brought his penguin pillow pet so they carried their pets around the house.

Ruthie sees here brother and sister having a good time playing in the snow. She is thinking "I want to go out too...please." Since the weather was decent, I bundled her up and headed out to play.

Ruthie played in the snow for the first time today. I didn't have snow boots or pants to use so I had her wear a couple of layers of pants. The temperature was actually warm enough to play outside in the snow. She liked scooping it up and even eating or licking it. GROSS!!!
